I decided to Antifoul the lovely white bottom of the boat.
I had only left her in the water for up to a week to 10 days before now .
If I wanted the freedom to leave her in longer , I needed to apply antifouling.
I did this on the trailer by applying masking tape along and below the boot line as a guide.
I then removed the centreboard which was easy, its not that heavy and won't suddenly fall on you .
The pivot pin was in perfect condition , it was equally simple to put back on .
I used a small roller and paint tray to apply the paint (the small radiator type with the long handle).
When leaving the job I put the roller and tray in a plastic rubble bag to stop it going hard.
The difficult part is painting the area concealed by the trailer bunks.
Here's how I did it.
Paint what you can see.
Lower the front bunk by unbolting the height adjusters, lower the bunk and apply paint.
The boat will not go anywhere as its supported by the bow chock and the middle and rear bunks
To paint the areas concealed by these bunks I had to move the boat backwards and I did this by lowering the jockey wheel all the way to make the stern go up .
I got about 24 concrete blocks in total and put a pile under each side of the rear hull
I then placed a stout piece of timber on top of the pile for the boat to rest on . A brick pushed under the timber angled it to the v angle of the hull.
I did this both sides .I lowered the jockey wheel to raise the front of the boat again until it was resting on the blocks/wood at the stern and low and behold the rear and middle bunk were not touching anymore . I supported the middle in the same way , lowered the jockey wheel and moved the trailer forward enough to finish the painting .
To reverse this manhandling of the boat was much easier.
I also applied antifouling to the centreboard and the rudders .
The primer was grey and the antifouling black so it was easy to see any places missed but on drying the antifouling turns grey. When wet the antifouling goes black
I did remove my speed sensor and used a small brush to paint around the ballast drain hole.
